I love Mo’s. Well, I love Mo’s in Newport, OR, but the others, not so much. Technically, they do not have drive-thrus, but they do have the best West Coast chowder. What I don’t like about the Lincoln City (and any other location apart from Newport) is that it has a corporate feel. It is too cookie-cutter, cut-and-paste, carbon-copy seafood restaurant-ish. The original Mo’s in Newport is located in an old garage on the waterfront street across from the fish canneries, harkening back to images of Cannery Row and Steinbeck. The newer restaurants are just poor copies and so commercialised that they have lost the atmosphere of the first Mo’s. If you are going to create a chain, then make it true to the original or don’t do it at all. The food is good at these duplicates, but I just can’t enjoy it when I feel I want to escape from corporate America and get back to the garage of yester-year.
