Maria’s Mexican Restaurant in Melissa, TX is just another revamped location with bland food and boring decor. The waitstaff are pleasant and very accomodating. They bring you everything you need, but the food was not seasoned, especially not the chicken in the enchiladas, tacos, or nachos; it was just boiled meat. The salsa is from a can, or so it seems, with no texture or body. The chips are traditional fare, probably cut and fried by the staff, but I found several were greasy, but they held up against the very liquid salsa. I would like to see a little bit of creativity in the menu, even though the prices were very reasonable. I have found the Shell Station across Hwy. 121 has more flavour and just as reasonable pricing. There was a television on in the room, and it was playing Univision for the World Cup, which was nice, but I do not believe tvs should be in restaurants. Dining out is a social occasion, not one where you go to watch futbol or any other show on a screen; you can do that at home and ignore each other quite well.
6 out of 10 stars.
